The New Forest

I like to think of the New Forest as my back garden, a huge and largely accessible area of blissful outdoors. It is inhabited by an incredible diversity of wildlife, and these photographs represent my vision of the area, it's unique charm to me. I invite you to share my perspective.

There are of course many competing influences within the forest;

Firstly - it's character is shaped by a largely agricultural community, whose traditions have shaped it's landscape over centuries. The commoners still maintain a strong influence on it's commercial usage and in conjunction with their animals, it's appearance.

Secondly - it's a tourism and outdoor recreation destination.

It's also an area with increasing local trade and industry, not necessarily with a New Forest identity

Finally it's just a great place to live.

My photos are not concerned with the chocolate box views of Swan Green; I prefer to touch and smell the gritty textures of the forest, experience the wild and lonely place it is, so long as you travel a few yards off the beaten tracks.

I am planning to photograph some of the people who live and work the forest one day, but I'm not quite there yet....

If you are interested in buying a print, all the work in this set is available as an archival limited edition print edition. I use a variety of papers, dependent upon the visual quality of the image. Typically I offer colour images on Ilford Gallerie paper for £70 at A3 size

Silver prints from film negatives are also available, although prices for these are by quotation.
